Halloween 2015

Do you ever feel like you spend a lot of time preparing and looking forward for something only to discover that it was over in no time? Yeah, that was me today...

Cake decorated, coffee brewed, literally two minutes before D and the boys arrived.

My Mom was looking after Colin's girlfriends, so that's where we went first.

It got dark soon after that

We picked up two witches

In Switzerland not many people decorate for Halloween, so the sight of those pumpkins made me very happy!

Our daycare manager was home

One of our neighbors certainly deserves an award for this cool ghost!

Speaking of award, this carrot salad was served in simple plastic cups where we drew some Jack'O'Lantern faces. So simple, so awesome!

Mac and Cheese with pumpkin puree... Plus a glass of Eagle's Nest Shiraz. Yum!

Our door bell only rang twice. Those guys didn't want to reveal their identity.

Don't the girls look awesome? The one on the left is a classmate of Colin's.

Not a bad outcome, right?

Halloween Preparations 2015

As great as our vacation was, I was also looking forward to coming home and getting started on one of my favorite holidays!

Before we had left, I ordered a few things, and look! My sweater arrived! Time to get our cool Halloween shoes out, too!

I didn't even mind (too much) cleaning up the living room. Note the LEGO man that we kept from Colin's birthday party! He was going to get a complete Halloween makeover!

This year I didn't have any trouble finding my numerous ghost lights. Also during the year I have been working on emptying more laundry detergent containers!

Ta-daaaaa! :-)

Even though we have a lot of decoration from previous years, I wanted to make something new, and I came up with the haunted house idea. I found this really cool template over at Sarah Jane's

I also used some sturdy cardboard tablecloth roll that I had cut and then wrapped with adhesive orange foil which sounds really easy, but once again the sourcing of said foil was actually hard around here. It was worth it though, I think it looks really cool!

On my one morning off with no appointments or grocery runs I dressed up not only the barbies but our Elf on the Shelf and took some pictures. You will see why later.

For Colin's snack box I started printing out Halloween jokes. My favorite is "what is a witch on the beach? - A sandwitch!"

I baked some bread adding orange food coloring and cut out pumpkin shapes.

My first try at working with candy melt

The glow-in-the-dark skeleton PJs came out of the closet. Actually I had to find a new one this year, growth spur and all...

A little school bag surprise goes a long way :-)

Just regular bottled water with a festive label and Scooby-Doo, Halloween Boos and Clues

Good morning!

He was too busy solving the quiz on the backside of the cereal box that he didn't even notice the note!

So we are going to have our usual friends over for our Halloween party. Stay tuned for more pictures!

Funny Friday - the grouse who came in from the cold

Today’s post is October’s Funny Friday, a regular feature published on the last Friday of every month. Funny Friday is a collaborative project. Each month one of the participants submits a picture, then we all write 5 captions or thoughts inspired by that month’s picture. Links to the other bloggers’ posts are below, click on them and see what they’ve come up with. I hope we bring a smile to your face as you start your weekend.

Here’s today’s picture. It was submitted by Someone Else’s Genius

  1. Good morning, I am Grousy! It is so nice to meet you!
  2. I usually live in pine forests, moorlands or mountains way up North (think Greenland)
  3. However my goal was to appear on a blog. So I snuck into Robin's front yard and had my picture taken. I let her believe I didn't notice. Made her pretty happy!
  4. My favorite foods are catkins, twigs, leaves  and buds, and my natural enemies are lynx, foxes, martens and hunters in the UK
  5. So now I am going back to the North Pole, Santa is waiting for me on a status report on how you girls have been doing this year!

Of Springboks and Ghouls

Mommy, mommy, have you seen?
The rugby final's on Halloween!

This is going to be so cool,
the ref may dress up as a ghoul!

Imagine the All Blacks play in orange
On the Wallabies they'll take revenge!

They may use a pumpkin ball,
After the game there's soup for all!

Of course there has to be candy, too!
Lots of it, otherwise I'll say boooooo!

This poem was part of a group initiative. Check out the other ones!

PS: That's what you get for writing ahead. Colin and I fully assumed the Springboks would make it to the finals. Now that they haven't, I had to go back and edit my lengthy, carefully crafted poem
