Blog with Friends - Leprechaun Craft

I thought there isn't enough on my plate, so I signed up for "Blog with Friends".

See, the theme is GREEN, and I just had to participate, right?

Here’s a cute and relatively simple craft you can make with your kid(s) for
St. Patrick’s Day:

I found the idea a couple of years ago on Youtube: How to Make a St. Patrick's Day Cardboard Leprechaun | Crafts | Babble

Mine is a simplified version though. I may be somewhat crafty, but not that patient!

What will you need?
  • Empty toilet paper rolls
  • Pipe cleaners in reddish brown or orange
  • Green crafting paper
  • Skin tone, pink and green paint
  • Black marker
  • Pen
  • Glue
  • Some clover (or gold coin) stickers

Instructions:
  • Start painting the TP rolls, be careful not to paint the whole roll green but to spare space for the face and hands. Let them dry.
  • Using the TP roll, measure the lid for your leprechaun’s hat, circle with a pen and cut out green paper rounds
  • Using the roll and a drinking glass, also circle and cut out the brim for the hat
  • Paint the faces and the belts with black marker
  • Wrap your pipe cleaners around the pen for some curly hair and beards.
  • If you have a hot glue gun use it to attach the pipe cleaners. I don’t have one so I just used Cementit and clamped the stubborn hair parts beards on with some clothespins until the glue was dry.
  • Drop the brim hats – they will be supported by the hair
  • Glue on the hat tops, decorate with stickers

Enjoy your leprechauns!

You may use them as place cards for your St. Patrick's party. In that case write the names of your guests on the hat brims. Or have your leprechauns hold a name tag glued on a toothpick. Extra points if the name is written on an Ireland flag!

Play a game: Arrange all of your leprechauns on the table, hide a golden chocolate coin underneath one leprechaun. Taking turns each child guest who's had a few, may lift a leprechaun to find out if it holds the coin.

You may also hide the leprechauns around the house and make it a scavenger hunt - who finds the most leprechauns?

Now let me wish you a

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
