Top Ten Thursday - Art

Welcome back to Top Ten Thursday!

Today let's talk art! What are your top ten favorite pieces of art, I'm thinking paintings, classical music, sculptures, literature, theater plays, operas,... We like to call them the brown subject (playing Trivial Pursuit, blue is for geography, pink is used for entertainment, green means science, yellow is history, orange stands for sports, and brown represents, well, "culture".)

In no particular order, other than paintings, classical music, sculptures, literature:

  1. Andy Warhol, Campbell's Soup Can
  2. Roy Lichtenstein, Kiss II
  3. Piet Mondrian, Composition with red yellow and blue
  4. René Magritte, la Trahison des Images (ceci n'est pas une pipe) because it makes you think. If it looks like a pipe why isn't it supposed to be a pipe? For all I know “When I see a bird that walks like a duck and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call that bird a duck.”
  5. The Bean sculpture in Chicago
  6. The LOVE sculpture in Philadelphia
  7. Ludwig Beethoven's 5th and 9th Symphony
  8. Wolfang Amadeus Mozart, pretty much any piano concert, especially #23
  9. Vivaldi, the four Seasons
  10. Max Frisch, Homo Faber (Swiss Author. This is what happens in the novel: A middle aged engineer who refuses to believe in coincidence or fate survives a plane crash and chooses to travel by boat this time. The young lady he meets and develops *feelings* for during that trip turns out to be his daughter he didn't know he had.)
  11. Rainer Maria Rilke, the Panther (a German poem about a panther who leads a lonely existence behind bars in a Paris park.)

Haha - I feel like I'm pretty simple and predictable. I like bright, basic colors and shapes. No fuzzy wishy-washy, no flowers or nude people. Not even the Mona Lisa. Not that she's nude, but in my humble opinion she's not that special either.

However, I noticed that Cookie, our Elf on the Shelf, got inspired by Mr Warhol:

How cool is that?

I didn't include any buildings, towers or bridges, we should totally do a separate architecture post, don't you think?

Can't wait to hear about your top ten pieces of arts - please leave me a comment below or link up your own post.

What's next?

December 14 With Christmas only ten days ago let's discuss our personal dos and don'ts of the Christmas season. Is writing Christmas cards a must or a waste of time and money? Say "merry Christmas" or "happy Holidays"? Fake joy for a gift you hate? Re-gift a gift you hate? Be nice just because it's Christmas or risk a fight? Sign up here.

The week after, December 21st, I'd like to try something a little bit different. No list this time. You choose one of your top ten Christmas songs (if you participated last year) or just pick one you like and create a back story. Example: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Michael Bublé We want to hear about the characters in that song, and especially all the fun they had last year! Your story is only supposed to contain ten sentences. OK? Go!
